Fiji Return March 2025

A placeholder of sorts that all too often remains permanent.  Vic and I were in Fiji from the latter part of March 2025.  While there we spent time in Nadi, then to Suva staying with Robin Taylor. Then one night at Toberua Island off the coast. I could see Ovalua and Motoriki in the distance and my heart longed for them too of course.  Forty years now since I first layed eyes and my heart on the Islands of Fiji.

We returned to Suva and on March 24 we married.  I cried (of course) for all that each of us has gone through to get to this sacred place and the relief, the joy, happiness and compassion we share for each other. True dedicated love of my life.  Not many get to have this.

From there we flew to Nadi for another two days before leaving.  Saw Dale Hermanson and his partner Robin and what a great couple,  He never left Fiji and has been there 40 years now.

So here we are, back in America facing the disaster that we have become.  And to think it is just beginning, the tearing down of a great nation but unrecognized by the party that claims more superiority and patriotism.  It is a mark of distinction and warning that even writing these words can be declared betrayal under the new rules.  Freedom of speech met with prosecution.

They thought COVID was bad.  So tearing down the public health system results. If, and when H5N1 crosses the rubicon to human transmission it is going to get very dangerous.  We have plans to retreat but in the end nothing may save us.  From H5N1 or the dissolution of America.  It's final last spasm of military might and gasp of final breath.

Poem: Two Wheels (and a nail).

 Two Wheels (and a Nail)

On my two wheels,

I stopped to pick up a nail.

Yeah, a nail just for you.

Better to do that as it re minded me that to exist,

Chop wood, haul water, pick up nail,

It all seems to fit together.

It was not just for me or you but for us all.

Then I thought, who invented the nail anyway?

Who had the temerity to use nails to crucify people?

A far cry away from chopping water and hauling wood.

I got down on my knees to get a closer look,

At broken pavement and said nail.

More than one I have seen.

Pulled out my brush and broom,

Broke two square meters down into blocks.

I picked and swept and brushed and sanded and blew away,

Till smooth and silky.

No need to worry now.

Just one last nail.

In Our Garden

       In Our Garden

I want to come home to our garden.

Our garden of earthly delights.

After days over bodies probing their pain

The depth of their hurt and sorrow.

I’d rather come home to our garden.

Our garden of earthly delights,

Feeding and nurturing both in the planting, the growing, the harvest.

I had not thought of it till now

With my hands deep in earth.

This garden, this life.

So much the same the other begets the other

A universal dance of earth, water and blood.

Oh yes I say to the fecund madness

That we nurture and grow.

Soon unable to live apart

Without the Other

There is no me or I or you or them or they

Nothing betwixt and between.

So plant my body here and now,

Make it bloom and grow

Lay me to rest amongst the roots and thorns

Our lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and melons

Devour us after devouring them.

While I dream of you

And what we have created

Each having the other.

Let the compost and our love

Drench my bones in power and glory

I, one with you

You, one with me.

I have come home to our garden.

And let the endless circling Earth

With time and tide

Renew us again, again and yet again

in the timelessness of love and space

Unremembered yet known.

Oh my love, my garden.

Oh my love, my love, my love.
